Indy 400 Throttle cable sticking

Post by guitardude081 »

The Indy is 90% ready for snow. Just needs hyfax and some electrical work along w/ new warmer setups. I tested it out today on the driveway. It's a snappy little thing. That 400 has pull like no other small cc sled I've ever ridden. (Too bad it's already sold to a guy at work) When I got it back into the garage, I filled the gas tank and removed my mixed gas tank and checked for oil on the injection nozzles, checked sychronization on the carbs and set the idle. I put the sled on a stand to fine tune everything. As I was snap testing the throttle (closed to wide open), the cable would stick halfway unless I snapped the lever to close it. I pulled the slides out of the carbs and tried it. The same thing happened. I pushed on the oil pump lever and it was still stuck so I know it's not the oil pump holding it up. I installed an aftermarket (Lemans) cable similar the the ones for the 80's Liquifires. (case splits in the middle, not the end...2 mounting holes) I think what is happening is that the slide in the splitter box is catching on the joint between the 2 halves of the box. Has anyone had similar probs with aftermarket cable assemblies? The same thing happens on my 1980 Liquifire (aftermarket cable) from time to time, and I just snap the throttle and it closes. This could be a safety hazard for the guy who bought it because he isn't real familiar with sleds. I don't know if he'd be able to react in time if the thing stuck on him. He's using it for a hunting sled, so evasive maneuvers could result in the sled and a tree becoming one.

I just bought one of those Lemans Cables and i haven't put it on but it seams like it moves free. I like how all these complaints of stuff not working come out after i ordered all of my parts. BOB
