Walbro WF carbs - high alt. jetting, Arctic Cat

Post by jerryswiss »

Does anyone have any info on high altitude jetting for Walbro WF Carbs in Arctic Cats with Kawasaki engines of the early 70's, jet sizes that are recommended, etc? Also does anyone know a source to obtain these jets?

I have thought about making the existing jets smaller by covering the jet holes with epoxy and drilling smaller holes. Anyone ever try this? Thanks.

Well, I have asked this question on 4 or 5 web sites, even Arctic Cat sites and no responses. I guess I will assume there is no source out there for Walbro jets and the idea of modifying jets with epoxy, I will need to try myself.

I appear to be sailing into uncharted water with this question. Wish me luck!

Hiya Jerry. I wish I could tell you I know where to find Walbro parts, but I don't know anyplace that stocks anything for them. Your idea about using epoxy sounds interesting......I'd suggest the long curing epoxy, not the 5 minute junk. JB weld might even be a better bet. I just dismantled a Mikuni carb on a sled I am restoring and was baffled to find three tiny wires protruding from the casting that the pilot jet fits into. Upon closer examination, I discovered why they were there. Evidently, someone had tried to remove the pilot jet at one time and broke it off. They then tried drilling it out and using an easy out. This too, was unsuccessful and they were faced with a stuck pilot jet with a huge hole bored into it. So they jammed some small wires into the hole to reduce the size of it....and believe it or not, it kinda worked. Now I have to figure out how to fix it properly...lol. I wish you luck with your Walbro.

Yea, thanks. It should be interesting to experiment with this idea. Sorry to hear about your carb. Reminds me of the time I tried to punch out the needle and seat flap pin and broke off one of those posts that hold it in, had to go to a salvage place and get a whole new carb.

Yes the JB weld will work better. And let it cure in a warm place for about a week.

Found it! For Arctic Cat carb specifications, including High Altitude, check out "Curt's Vintage Arctic Cat Page" website. He lists regular and high atl. specs on carbs 1971-1981.
