Carb problems

Post by JDXsand00s »

Since the snow has fallen, I've been trying to get all my sleds going. Out of 13 Deere's, 3 are reliable. The 3 sleds I am having problems with all have rebuilt engines and carbs, and I'm confident that the engines aren't the problem. My 72 400 will run good for a mile, but the top needle needs to be opened 4 full turns and after the mile it won't run without the choke. My 73 500 has flooding issues; I have to turn the top needle all the way closed for it to start and then open it to 3/4 to have it run right. My 74 X8 has fouling issues. It will run several hundred yards fine and then kill the plugs. I don't think they are getting wet-fouled; it seems as if the engine is killing hem for the moment, but when I change the plug back several hours later, it miraculously has spark again. Any thoughts? I'd like to get all of my sleds running and reliable before I park them and go to college next year. Thanks.

Carb problems

sounds to me like needle & seat problems, either varnished gas in the carbs sticking the needle & seat or dirt particals in the needle & seat.
