Kawasaki TA 440B-C202

Post by Mailman »

I was wondering if the Kawasaki TA440B-202 engine would interchange on a Trailfire tunnel? I have started to work on a 81 Sportfire and have found the tunnel is in pretty bad shape aside from having a 81 Liquidfire suspenision and track under it. I think I can get ahold of a Trailfire tunnel that is supposed to be ok don't know what year yet but have thought about putting the sport motor on the trailfire tunnel if it wouldn't be too much trouble. Also I think the Trailfire has the suspenision and track with it. Also the Ser. No. on the Kawi motor is TA440B-019355.

that will fit right up they are basicly the same tunnel John Deere parts catalog listed in the links section shows that they sub the 81 sportfire tunnel in for most of the trailfires so it should bolt up perfectly

You need to have the mount plate and the airbox from the sportfire, otherwise it fits like a glove.

Good luck!

Hey Guys,

Yup, you are all correct. The Sport and Trail share a common tunnel. As noted, the air box, motor plate and cooling air duct are unique to the Sport, but it all bolts right in.

I would keep the Liquifire rubber track and suspension, as the cleated tracks are hard to find, and the 79-80 Trail and 80 Sport tracks also fit the direct drive sleds, like the Spit, Sprint and Snowfires. (The 81-84 tracks off Trailfires or 81 Sports are a 1/2" wider, and only fit the chaincase sleds).

If the LF skidframe has the Trailfire rear arm installed, it bolts right in the Trail/Sport tunnel, and is basically the set up the 82-84 Sportfires used. (The Sport/Trailfire rear arm is longer than the LF).

Good luck,
-Joe Rainville

Hello everyone it is I again. Took the suspenision off of the sled tonight and thought I would do some measuring to see if I can come up with just what I have under this sled. The track is around 117" X 15 1/4" and I checked it when it still had tenision on it so it might of stretched a bit, also there are NO cleats on the track, just all rubber. The drive has three sprockets on it. I checked the length of the back adjuustable arms and they are about 10 1/4" long from the tip to the tube and the front arms are about 15" from tube to tube. The rails have lettering on them which say 80 L/F left and 80 L/F right so I'm guessing that the whole suspenision came out of salvage yard somwhere. Where or how do you measure to determine the pitch of the track? If it possible to get it to fit back in the tunnel by replacing the steel plates on the inside of the tunnel that's what I'm going to try. Also looks like I'm going to have to get base or motor mount plate welded as it is starting to get some small cracks in it. I checked the FAQ on the size & interchange of the tracks but thought I would make sure if possible. Thanks Again for the help so far. Sandy
