sportfire idle troubles
alright guys i'm shot out of the water here whats wrong alright my sportfire last night would start first pull no choke idle at 2200 then crawl up to 4000 and settle back down at 2200. I adjusted the idle screw but that didn't help. So i talked to a guy that works on alot of the Deeres in the area and he said my choke might need adjusted so tonight i adjusted my throttle and my choke i set the idle screw according to the book and put it on half choke and it started after a couple of pulls. it started off at 1400 then crawled up to 3000 and then settled off at 1400 and stayed their i let it sit there and idle for aout 10 minutes and then shut it off and let it sit about a minute and then started it again with no choke but this time it started at 1400 crawled to 3000 and stayed there and wouldn't come back down even with adjusting the idle screw. So theres my problem are my floats not set right, my cables or is it possibly seals?

Starting fluid is a cheap & easy way to check the seal and while your at it squirt the intake and rule that out . If you havent touched it yet check the slide in the carb and see if it seated or stuck. Same thing happened to wifes phazer wound up being a frayed cable. Slide wouldnt return to idle screw.! It wouldnt hurt to check float but doubt thats it . Good luck

ok you have slack in your choke and throttle cable. I would then set the air mix screw at 1.5 turns out. Run the engine till its warm and restart and see where it goes. If it creeps up in rpms and then drops right after starting that is sometimes normal. It would hurt to spray carb spray on the seals and all the way around the motor. I would also check your intake carb holder for rips and cracks. Idle should be set at 2000rpm. If the motors rpm goes up after spraying a spot that is the area its leaking in air. Hope this helps!
