In the process of R&Ring a few tired KEC 22Rs. Given that I can only figure out how to time them while running, the process would be made a bit simpler if the fan shroud wouldn 't have to be removed to pull the flywheel/mag. Looks like the starter gear assembly is just an interference fit; I don't forsee ever putting a starter/battery on any of them.
At any rate, has anyone removed the ring and then run the sled for a good time? Besides easier timing, I'm thinking that A lightened flywheel wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing (quicker revs?), as long as its not dampening out some sort of vibration.

I would think you are correct in your theories. The 295/s (340/s or dator) has no ring gear on a cdi eng.

The ring gear is just a pressed fit, if you pull it off the flywheel and run it, you will be ok.
