Clutches and belts....

Post by speedy295 »

So i have got my 295/s going again, but it has a different power plant. It picked up a kec340 out of a 72 400 last winter and replaced it with the motor from my 295/s ( not permanatly, just so i had somthing to ride) so basically it s like a jd400 right now. well it runs well but it wont upshift, and my question is, Is the secondary setup to tight or is somthing else wrong, the motor has 94c duster on it.

My next question, is there an after market bel that fits these? I ordered a belt for it, when it was setup like a 295/s, for a 295 and it was so tight that when you pulled the rope the sled moved forward, so i compared it to the factory belt and determined that it was way too short. so when it got the motor out of the 400 it had a new aftermarket belt on it so i grabbed it, well it is the same part number as the 295/s belt and that is whats on it right now but it is to short as well it will start and run but it likes to creep at idle and some times wotn let it idle.

Is the belt length adjustable? or is there a blet that will work, or do i have to find an nos one?

I agree that it sounds like the clutch mis-match is an issue there. Another new belt won't help it.

Maybe if you could put the 102 from the 295 on the 340 that may help, but the setup probably still won't work well because it is setup for the higher RPM motor.

After riding it a bit i figure that the kec 340 doesn't make enought power at high rpm to keep the maintanence rpm when it starts to shift so it doesn't let it shift.

By the way i do have all the corect 295/s parts, but the motor needs a topend. I stuck this motor in it becuase we had 12" of snow and my el tigre is all apart.
