How long should it take for an engine to blow?
If i rebuilt an engine in my snowmobile without properly fixing it, how long should it take for the engine to quit? Such as rebuilding with an old seal or something. Also, is there a time when i can trust a rebuilt engine after a certain amount of miles? I have blown up 3 engines due to seals and another due to preignition, an i got about a combine 10 miles out of all 4, the most being about 4 and the least in 1. However my Spit also blew up after 200 good miles. Is there a general rule of thumb after rebuilding and engine or adjusting the carb that the snowmobile is trustworthy? I like to put at least 30, maybe 40 miles on a sled straight before i'll trust it to get me to school and back, a 8 mile round trip. Thanks.
