1979 sport fire running lean????

i picked up a sportfire 440 it runs great... but when i come off of top end and let it idel it sounds as if it were starving for fuel (motor makes long pings at idle) i did the carb (single carb) and help or info would be great....

My 80 Sportfire makes noises at idle. I was always concerned that it could be a bad wrist pin, or cage bearing. I didnt worry to awful much because it hasnt gotten worse in hundreds of miles. I guess now I know! Thanks Rich!
