Cranks Seals for Sportfire

Post by jdsledder »

I just picked up a 1980 Sportfire and it looks like I will have to install new crank seals in it to get it to run properly. I am looking for any recommendations of where to purchase a quality complete gasket kit with seals. Also, will I be able to replace the center seal without taking the crankshaft apart to install the seal.

I haven't heard anybody ever saying anything bad about Winderosa. They are made in the USA, and reasonably priced. You cannot change the center seal without seperating the crank. Dennis Kirk used to sell a two piece center seal but I believe it's no longer available. I'm not even sure where you can get a replacement center seal, maybe Winderosa does sell them, I have never seen them though. The seal really should never wear out, unless is damaged by debris from an engine failure.

The Winderosa complete set with seals is number 711048B, you can get one from MFG supply, dennis kirk, central snowmobile, lots of places. The center seal on these engines do not normally fail.

Thanks for the replies, is Winderosa the only company that makes gasket/seal kits for the Fireburst engines? I heard Winderosa may have had some problems with Liquifire head gaskets at one time and maybe this was an insolated case. Is everyone pretty happy with Winderosa gaskets kits for all models except the Liquifire kit

I've used them in all 3 of my JD machines and 2 others I used to own with no problems at all. I got mine at Dennis Kirk.
