Gas spit-back into the airbox. Sometimes bad crankseals mislead you into thinking something is wrong with the reed valves.

David,
What makes you think something is wrong with the reeds.

I dont really think there is something wrong with them. But I cant seem to get rid of this smokey boggy acceleration. everything is factory specs, and clean as far as carbs timing ect. I just dont know what it is. It runs really strong after it is moving and rolling a little, if you keep it going and keep the rpm's up a little it is fine, it will run strong all day. from a dead stop to about 4,000-5,000 it is really smokey and no power.

well the carbs have the 2.5 cut. I think. But that is what they came with. this motor never ran this way inside of the john deere chassis. it is not the biggest problem but it is nice to be able to just pin it and leave a pile behind you.

actually it has the square wire yellow spring out of another clutch I have. I am going to try and put the clutches back the way they came and just try switching the whole clutch. Some one said the replacement 108-C came with a square wire yellow spring. That clutch engages at like 5,000 so I think that will cure the smokey bog. I hope. Silver is the spring of choice huh? I thought I was told to try blue, with the 76 440 factory weights??

If while I am trying to climb a hill, If I hold it wide open it seems to spin the track so much that it wants to up shift, So I loose power in the middle of the hill, then the secondary feels like it down shifts quick and I am back to spinning and climbing again. Does this mean I need to tighten the secondary spring?

mmm i dont think the thottle valve cutaway would do it, have the pilots ever been replaced? do you know what size of pilots are in it? have you tried dropping the jet needle down a notch?

I believe the pilots are 35 maybe. pilots have never been replaced by me. and as far as I know nothing has been replaced in the carbs. The sled that this setup came from has been in my family for ever.
I have tried dropping the needle as far as #2. and it might get a little better but still very smokey and kinda blubbery.

It will sit and Idle perfect all day.

After I get it moving, even slow just putting around, it doesnt smoke that bad and I can punch it and take off perfect and ride just like normal. I just cant stop and restart that well. so it makes for a lot of getting stuck.
