clutch and crankshaft

Post by JDXspec »

quick question what if anything should I put on the tapered crank before I reinstall the clutch. Last time I cleaned it up good ( with emery cloth) and a yr later I destroyed the clutch trying to get it off. so should I put some antiseize on it before I install the clutch?

Thanks

I never used anything just a clean dry surface, but then we were always taking the clutchs off to inspect??? if the bolt isn't torqued to spec sometimes the clutch will spin on the crank and almost weld itself to it, are you sure this wasn't your problem?? or it the clutch had an improper taper?? Other wise nothing should seep in between the clutch & the crank to sieze it?? Rich would know if Deere recomends any antiseize..

Thanks for the info I figured that its best clean and dry but had to ask. I may have used an Impact to bump it down. I'm sure I didn't rattle on it. :lol22:
