72 400 Lighting

Post by JDXsand00s »

i was riding my 72 400, the lights had all worked for 500 miles, and then the headlight went out. i replaced the bulb and the headlight lighted but i didn't check the others. now none of the bulbs light but they areall good bulbs. since the 72's didn't have voltage regulators could it be that my lighting coil is dead? i tried to test with ohm-meter but couldn't get a eading, it could be dead or i didn't have good contact. i will probably change the coil but i would like to know how it could just go dead like that. thanks.

I would start by checking for power right at the headlight plug with either a voltmeter or test light. If you have nothing there check right at the switch to see if the switch is bad and lastly right at the engine connector should be the yellow wires. It would make sense for it to just quit like this if the lighting coil failed.
