295/S serial numbers

Post by Vector Boy »

I know this may be a dumb question but do the numbers on engine and the frame have any match to them? On some of the yamaha sleds the motors and the frame/tunnel numbers would match and I was wondering if there was any thing to the JD numbering system? What I want to do is I have two sleds and three motors and want to put my best motor in my best frame in time for Waconia. Would this mess things up uif i do motor swaps? Thanks for any info.

It is very rare for a snowmobile to have matching numbers, Although I have heard of it in Few race sleds with matching numbers ( But I really wonder if somebody didn't stumble upon a matching number engine & place it in the sled type of thing & if they were matching it probably was only like the last 3 digits as most chassis & engine have different starting numbers ) The reason being for most Mfg. the sleds are there production but they have another company building there engines for them such is the case of John Deere Using CCW, a few Kohlers, then Kioritz, & then Kawasaki..

I had a dator the owner said never went to deere for it's updates and the motor number was different than the tunnel number. i also have a 295/s the owner ran till the crank went then parked again same deal motor numbers do not match sled tunnel numbers in my case. I dont know if deere ever kept a registry of what motor went in what sled. I been told they didnt in the dator update.
Thanks,
Ted
