1974 jd300

Post by avmech »

Sled sat for years and I need to get it going. I have the fuel side taken care of. New lines clean tank and carb kit installed.

I have week spark on one side and no spark on the other. I want to replace all ign parts. I have the extrernale coils and points condenser. What about the internale coil.

Does some one have a part number and source for the internale coil?

Or ohm value for the internale coil

How to pull flywheel ? Does a harmonic balance puller work?

Thanks for all the help

I have been looking for this data as well for a while, you can just use a harmonic ballancer to pull the wheel but make sure you use the 2 larger 5/16 holes then the 4 - 1/4 holes, and in the FAQ's there is a thread disuccing removal, but basically tighten it up and give it a sharp rap with a hammer, but not so hard that your damaging the crank etc. keep tightening and tapping until it comes free, or use some heat on the inside on the wheel to loosen, but don't burn the internal components.

I just posted a spot on testing the condensor's, but you may want to try replaing the one non-firing external coil first, as that was an issue on those sleds anyway. Once you know if that was or is the issue you can start replacing other parts, but the internal coils are most likely fine, and if not I could only find replacements on ebay so far. All the other parts are readily available.
