Re: I500 jitters already
I dont think its off base to first pick the most reliable sled to finish a race as long as a leg of the I-500. I would definitely trust my 340s before a kawi powered liquifire. A 340s chassis and a 78 cyclone single carb 340 would be even better yet. I dont believe most people are expecting to win t...

Re: I500 jitters already
I would stay away from any kawi powered sled, i have never been able to keep them running. run the 78 or the 340s. just mount a xtra cdi next to the original so you can plug in the next one as they burn out. the ccw sleds seem more reliable to me. Bryan

Re: 440 Dator Engine
I500 thats awesome, the unknown history of that sled is what makes it so cool. with every year that passes, every watering hole we stop at the stories and memories of sledding wether new or vintage, keep getting better. Facts just make it another 1960's muscle car cruise. Snowmobiling is best told a...

Re: 440 Dator Engine
I know a lot has changed over the years, but i work in the experimental shop at a deere factory, we put experimental parts in any machine that is available, sometimes machines are hacked up 2-3 times before they are chewed up by the crusher. It is amazing these engines are still around, NO EXPERIMEN...

Re: 440 Dator Engine
I think a 440 dator motor deserves any run of the mill dator chassis. here is something you would never hear at a show or on the trail----"Oh it's just a regular Dator with a 440 dator motor in it." Bryan

Re: 440 Dator Engine
Now lets say someone installed this into a correct dator chassis, completely restored from one end to the other, would that make the highest priced john deere sled in existence?? possibly one of the most desirable vintage sleds known to man. Probably not a bad deal. Bryan

I talked to a guy that went to that party, he said it got pretty wild and the manager of the holiday inn tried to shut down the party, the guy claims bob carlson told him not to stop the party and he had enough money to buy the hotel and the manager was the first guy he was going to fire. the party ...

The family and i went last year for the first time and loved it. we parked 50 yards from the entrance and i could not believe how many swappers were there. we will be skipping haydays this year. Bryan

Re: How much $ for a 80 Spitfire?
A like the spitfires, anything with 1 carb is easier to keep running well. you can have $200 in gas and travel money real easy, if this sled is close by it is worth a lot. Most of us have way more in these sleds than they are worth by the time they are running right, but there is a lot of satisfacti...

Re: 340s seat -how is it fastened?
OK, so the strip listed in the parts catalog is actually a velcro strip instead of metal, I have the tank cover and see some remnants of the velcro on there. Thanks Bryan

340s seat -how is it fastened?
On the original 340s seats how were they fastened? I have seen some used snaps, but the parts book shows some sort of metal strip with rivets. any pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bryan

Re: Oval Racing John Deeres?
I dont have any valuable tips for you, but I think its a great idea. I have seen a few trailfires run, they looked like they were having a lot of fun but must not have been dialed in as they were towards the back of the pack. If you stay committed and have a little time you will make any one of thos...
