Re: Parting Out: 1982 Trailfire

I am interested in the Drive Shaft, is the LH end (Speedo end) worn (tapered) where the bearing is located?? I am looking for a drive shaft that has a good LH end. The bearing has to fit tight on the shaft and not sloppy. What condition is your shaft in??

Mikuni Carb on Kawi Spitfire Choke Cable Fitting Problem

I am trying to install a Mikuni Round Slide Carb (VM30) on a 1980 Spitfire with a Kawaski engine. I have obtained all the parts to install the Round Slide Carb in place of the Butterfly Carb, but I am having a problem finding the fitting that screws into the carb to hold the choke cable. The choke c...

1983 Sportfire Suspension Shafts

I was going thru the suspension on a 83 Sportfire I recently purchased. I was able to get both upper shafts removed from the suspension arms. One of the shafts was made of aluminum and one was made from steel. Does anybody know if this was production? and if so where should the aluminum shaft be pla...

Re: NOS Sportfire Oil Injection Nozzles for Sale

Thanks for you quick response to my question, but I think the Liquifire uses a bango bolt with an oil injector bolt/nozzle threaded thru the bango bolt to deliver the oil. The Sportfire doesn't use a bango bolt, the oil injector bolt/nozzle threads directly into the manifold and a hose is connected ...

Re: 1982 Liquifire

How many miles are on the machine?
Does it have the TR800 clutch?
Is the oil injection working properly?
Is the belly pan dented?

Thanks

Re: Mikuni Slide Valve Carb on Spitfire

I figured out the problem with the Mikuni slide valve carb on my spitfire. The Mikuni VM30 slide valve carb has the vent tubes cast into the body of the carb. The vent exit from float bowl to the outside is thru a very small hole on the top of the inlet to the carb body. The hole is located on the R...

Mikuni Slide Valve Carb on Spitfire

I just installed a VM 30 Mikuni Slide Valve carb on my 1980 Spitifire. I used the carb settings from a 1982 John Deere Snowfire. I can't get the engine to start, not even a "pop". I install the old butterfly carb and it starts and runs. I installed a new needle and seat in the slide valve ...

I am looking to buy a 1982 or newer John Deere Sportfire, it must have the all rubber track, oil injection, and the Power Jet carb. I am looking for one in good condition but doesn't have to be showroom. I like to repair/restore these sleds. I would like to find one in Michigan but I have gone to IN...

1980 Sportfire Rear Shock Replacement

I need to replace the rear shock on my 80 sportfire. I used the "Search" feature on this forum and found several options. The best fitting shock I found was the Kimpex 08-114-16 from DK, but this shock is for a front ski not the rear suspension. Do you think the front ski shock will be pro...

Fuel Shut Off Valve Recommendation

I would like to install a fuel shut off valve on my 82 LF. I would like to buy a shut off valve from Motion Pro, but they state do not install them on engines over 300 cc. Can anyone recommend a fuel shut off valve that they have used on a 440 LF that will not affect the performance. The name of a p...
