I was wondering what is the best way to go with replacing the crank seals. Should i buy a nos crankshaft? Or get them pressed/resealed? How much does it cost to do that? And one last question- how do i know if mine are bad?
Thanks
Mark

Mark, I think JDT said it best: "sat outside 15 years = bad crank seals". Of course you can always take a chance and burn down a piston. DA

Re: Crank Seals question
Take the engine completely apart. No need for a NOS crank. If there is rust on the crank i would send it up to get checked.
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

Re: Crank Seals question
Crank seals are cheap - less than $10 for the pair. They slip over the ends of the crankshaft and seal the crank into the case. You must split the case to replace the seals on that Kawi. That is a good time to assess the bearings on the crankshaft. The outside bearings can be replaced by most people, but if the rods or inner bearings are bad you will need a good crankshaft rebuilder. I highly recommend Jerome Kretzman (Crankshaft Services). He is a sponsor here and does an excellent job at very reasonable rates.
There is no good reason not to replace the seals. They are very, very cheap compared to the alternative.

Mark, owning vintage sleds is NOT easy. But it is rewarding when you do the job right.
