With the push button kill and dimmer switches for the older machines all but dried up I was wondering if anyone has converted their controls to the later fire series control block and switches? The reason I ask, I have a 79 Spitfire that the throttle and brake blocks are busted up and in need of both switches. I have a later fire series handlebar with nice controls and switches and thought about upgrading to the later style that are still readily available.
Thanks,
Troy

Re: Control block & switch upgrade?
Have done the same thing on one of my spitfires and will be doing the swap on another one before snow flies. New style kill switch much easier for the kids to operate than the push button. Once the rubber is cracked and or missing it is hard to tell which position it is in. Anyway you do have to change out the "plug" as the styles are a different configuration. Took about 2 mins. Simply push back the wires through plastic plug and slide on the old plug. No need to cut or splice.

I have also done the same with my 79 spitfire not hard at all to do. Just take your time with switching the wire connector, not hard but don't want to break anything. However i think my brake block has a bad stop light swich as my brake light is on at all times whether brake is applied or not does not change anything.

Grips, blocks and switches from Kawasaki work well also and are easier to find.

For those wanting to keep the OEM look & JUST need the rubber for the push button, I can hook you up with a guy who has them new, easy to replace also.

Re: Control block & switch upgrade?
I have purchased a few of these and reported to the seller that they are just a tad short when installed BUT I like them and they are an inexpensive option. He also has decals for the top (Kill/Dimmer).ICCSF 108 wrote:For those wanting to keep the OEM look & JUST need the rubber for the push button, I can hook you up with a guy who has them new, easy to replace also.

T-roy, I'm so glad you brought this up. Last summer I operated a PWC for the first time and my biggest reaction was to how easy the throttle's finger grip was to operate. Yesterday I stripped the cross country bars on my cross country and am going to begin the process of installing the new throttle control and I was toying with the idea of converting to Gen II kill/dimmer. Thanks again for bringing this up.
By the way, I have a pretty good supply of "Indak" style kill and dimmer switches and would consider selling them but I do have a lot of money in them.

Re: Control block & switch upgrade?
Thanks guys for the responses! I'll go with the later fire series set up for now. Mitch and Kreechur answered what I needed to know. It won't be factory correct but it will be Deere parts. Todd, the Kawi info is great to know. I'll have to file that one away for future use. I have a couple of new switches left, but hate to use them on a beater for the kids.

Re: Control block & switch upgrade?
I have started the process of converting the CC to Gen II switches along with using the PWC throttle control. I'll take pictures as I go.

Re: Control block & switch upgrade?
Kenny, I installed that switch boot I got at Princeton on a dimmer switch. It was easy to install and it fit perfect.
