1976 Moto Ski TS 340 sonic

Post by Oldsleds »

Hi guys, i am picking one of these up tomorrow morning. I am getting it from the original owner and it is all complete. Do you think 1300 is to much? he hasn't run it in years but the engine is free and has good compression. Not alot of info out there on these but I love free air sleds and couldn't pass up this one. Anyone know how many they made?

I picked up one last March. The only information I have found was done with a search on VintageSleds. I think I read somewhere that it was either 500 each year made or 500 of each motor size each year made. I sure would like to see something more definitive. Pm me your serial number when you find out what it is. Thanks Bill

Got the sled today, very happy. I did forget to grab the serial number but i will. Got to fix the mag side spark though. I get one bright spark on that side for about about every 5 times it sparks on the other side. What a good looking sled though, in my opinion anyway. I am going to polish the tunnel and send the hood out for professional paint. Maybe i will post some pics tomorrow.

I guess the ignition system (Polar Fire) on that sled is even more finnicky than the JD systems. I was advised to never pull it over without having the sparkplug wires attactched. Anyhow, Hewtech now makes a box for these and also rewinds stators should you have a problem.

Funny you should say that, it came with a new Hewtech setup ready to go on. I will be installing it today.

The Polar Fire is a fragile system to say the least.

I bet the updated one is much better and more robust.
