Liquidator Clone
I hope I have not committed an unspeakable act or will have my character questioned for asking this question but here we go; anyone ever consider a Liquidator clone?
Create something that looks exactly like a Liquidator but has an engine set-up that allows you to use the snowcat for everyday use. (at least as often as your other JD's)
You could even have a special paint scheme that marks it as a clone and not the real thing.
When I was a kid I always thught the Liquidator looked like something from "Battlestar Galactica." It would be so cool to have one now that I'm older but they're pretty scarce and everything I read says the orignals were made to race and not to ride in a calm manner. I ride calm but want to appear wild.

I'm at work today and within five seconds of making this post, the phone rang. I thought "oh, no. I'm in trouble for that stupid Liquidator clone post." It wasn't Matt or Joe. Wow, am I paranoid.

I think as long as you make no effort to pass it off as and original go for it.

If I wanted a dator clone (or close to it). I think I would just find (or make) a dator hood gat a radiator to fit in it or mock one so it looks like a radiator and give a 76 LF a dator paint job. You would have close to a dator w/o the cost of having one. If thats the look you are going for. I agree with Trucker long as its not passed off as a dator. (of course Deere guys would know the difference immediately)
Own 74 295/s, 75 340/S, 800, 76 440 Liquifire, 300, Liquidator (3), 78 440 Liquifire, 340 Liquifire CC, 80 Liquifire, 82 Trailfire LX, 83 Sprintfire 84 Sportfire

I was thinking that too. I've been comparing pictures of Liquifires and Liquidators this morning.JDXspec wrote: If I wanted a dator clone (or close to it). Hell, I'll be happy if I just get this 600 running. I've got to get the engine tuned on the LF340 that has that free air 440 in it. That is good enough for me. I just don't have the money to sink into trying to find or make a LD!

Other than the hood scoop the hoods are very close. Looking at my dator it looks like the scoop is almost added on after the hood is made.

I agree, they look very similar.
I think if a person did something like this, all of your money would be spent on a new paint job. I think I would have to walk a very fine line because I'd want to make it realistic but I have no interest in fooling anyone or selling it for "big money." There would have to be something that clearly made it a clone.
Honestly, I'd probably just ride it around home and show it off to my brother. Probably post it here. Probably all just talk on my part anyway.

I agree. The reality is that keeping my 300 and the Spitfire in good shape probably will take up any time I can dedicate to snowmobiles. But anything even approaching a Liquidator would be so cool. My mother in-law would even sew me a John Deere snowmobile suit. For once, I would RULE!afponiky wrote: Hell, I'll be happy if I just get this 600 running. I thought about this a few times buy using a Cyclone and adding a Dator hood and paint and decals. Chuck said I should call it Cyclodator. but then in Feb I bought an original Dator and that idea went out the window. Go for it I think it would be neat project. Shannon

If your going to clone one then why not just put a latemodel motor like may be a 600 or 700. I have rode jason sled and that sled is very trailable.

Let's see......a 427 Cobra clone usually has a 427 engine, same with a Yenko Camaro clone, Same with a Pamala Anderson clone, so how do you really clone a Liquidator without cloning the engine's look, weight and performance? thought would be radius the corners and top of a 340 Liquifire block and use larger carbs, and the Liquidator pipes, keeping Koritz power in the Liquidator with the look of the original Liquidator and the reliabilty of the Liquifire.
