Re: wanted jdm-74 TESTER
If someone has one does it have an electrical diagram with the instructions?
As these are in demand maybe a guy could build one or more?
Looks pretty simple from the outside but it is whats inside that counts.

I believe that the Kawasaki, Ski Doo & others used the same box it's just that the connectors/wire harnesses would probably be different on them.

Re: wanted jdm-74 TESTER
Never having had one in my hands I do not much about them.
But I did read that they work on both AC and CD and have two ranges, low and high.
One question I have.... is the adjusting knob a multiposition switch or a pot?
It would appear that all they are is a volt meter with a pass/fail light rather than a dial.
But again, I have never seen one.

Re: wanted jdm-74 TESTER
I thought I had hit the jackpot when I found one of these at an auction a couple years ago. Finally, I could intelligently investigate electrical issues instead of simply employing "swapnostics". My excitement quickly faded when I found that I also needed a "load coil" and harness JDM-74A-6 to execute all the tests properly. Without them, I could only test the ignition coil, not the stator. I posted on here looking for info on the coil and harness but didn't come up with anything.
JDT,
The knob is a pot. I think these could be reproduced with enough interest. I would be willing to offer mine up for reference as long as we could get some info on the other two pieces, because its not very valuable without the whole set.
Below is a picture of the inside, not much to it.

Re: wanted jdm-74 TESTER
Well how about that!
Same box as the JD tester. (the Yamaha one listed on E-bay)
Seams one size fits all.
So wonder what the cost to build one is from Radio Shack parts would be ?
$30.00?

That sounds like an interesting proposal.
My knowledge of electronics is on the same level as my understanding of women...so I'm at a disadvantage here.

Re: wanted jdm-74 TESTER
So what is the mystery component in the upper left corner?
blk,yel and wht wires.
Must have a latching curcuit hence the reset botton.
Any thing else in the lower case besides the AA's?
The Yammy one on E-bay has the adapter and simulator but does not show the loading coil.

Brian I found this and thought it might be helpful to you.
Physics Joke 13:
Title: A Sexual Encounter between a Capacitor and an Inductor
One evening, with his charge at full capacity, Micro Farad decided to get a cute coil to discharge him. He went to the Magnet Bar to pick up a chip called Millie Amp. He caught her out back trying self induction; fortunately, she had not damaged her solenoid. The two took off on his megacycle and rode across the Wheatstone Bridge into a magnetic field, next to a flowing current , to watch the sine waves.
Micro Farad was very much stimulated by Millie's characteristic curve. Being attractive himself, he soon had her field fully excited. He set her on the ground potential, raised his frequency, lowered her resistance, and pulled out his high voltage probe. When he inserted it in parallel, he short-circuited her shunt. Fully excited, Millie cried out, "ohm, ohm, give me mho". As he increased his tube to maximum output, her coil vibrated from the current flow. It did not take long for her shunt to reach maximum heat. Now with the excessive current shortening her shunt, Micro's capacity rapidly discharged – every electron was drained off. But that was not the end of it. Indeed, they fluxed all night, tried various connections and hookings until his bar magnet weakened, and he could no longer generate enough voltage to sustain his collapsing field. With his battery fully discharged, Micro was unable to excite his tickler, so they went home. A few weeks later, they were merged forever and oscillated happily ever after.

Switch on the woman pannel is incorrect. It should have two off positions.
