Trip West from NY

Post by JoeRainville »

Hey Guys,

Last week I took a road trip from Rochester, NY all the way to Central Minnasota. My buddie Cory Greene and I drove 3,065 miles in 3.5 days. We were are far west as St. Cloud, MN, as far north as Duluth, and stayed in St. Paul 2 night.

Noteable stops were at Dennis Kirks' scratch and dent, Lee Fredrickson's place, (where I picked up a 78 Deere Racing Jacket with Balsom Lake patches on it), Schumeman Bros, Mike Hudziaks, and finally I met "Horicon Joe" Wanie too.

It was cool to visit Hudziaks new place, and check out his Deere collection. Wanie had a nice selection of sleds and parts, and was a pretty cool guy to visit with. Aside from NOS parts, I brought back 4 more Deere's to add to the collection and was very pleased that one of them was a very nice 78CC.

In case you guys didn't know, Lee Fredrickson is repoping 340/s hoods and pans in glass, and the stuff looks great. He has about 100 molds made for tons of other sleds too.

I should be making another trip in the spring, and hope to hook up with more Deere collectors too. I know I missed a few guys due to timing, but maybe next time. By the way, my buddie Cory is up to 3 Deere's now, and fully has the bug. I think I have him talked into visting the page more too. I really encourage you all to get out to shows and such to meet up with eachother. It's good to share your illness!

Thanks for stopping in Joe .... It was a pleasure meeting you and Cory. When you come back this spring we should get a bunch of guys that are interested to stop in and have some beers. I could ever arrange for some of the JD factory guys to stop in and chat with us about the glory years.
The 295 and 340s should have at least 3 coats of wax on them by the time you pick them up .... OVER

Hey Wade,

I posted, oh, about 10 times that I was going to St. Paul and you never mentioned that you were close to there. Or, maybe I was avoiding you?! Anyway, sorry I didn't stop by. Don't feel bad, I didn't stop and see Ron Sonnek either, and I was about 15 mintues from his place too. Not that I drove 3,065 miles in 3.5 days, averaging 875 miles per day! I didn't spend much time at ANY one place.

I should be coming out in the spring, with a less hectic schedule. Would be cool to see your stuff.

Talk to you later, Liquidator,
