So I have two NOS and needed two more, so I asked a student at the tech center I teach at to make me some, He made them from cold rolled steel at .0001 from the NOS one. I think he did a great job.

I was thinking the originals were brass, am I wrong? I've had several break for me removing or installing.

The NOS one is made from steel, scratches easy, it’s magnetic and looks to be pressed steel, maybe a powered compression. And maybe the soft steel is an replacement product.

I have been buying these from McMaster 2938T57 .... About $3.5 each. Tough to make them for that.
Double check my part no before ordering.
JD part M66245 print calls for material : Oil Impregnated Copper Iron Metal SAE 862
The color is silver because of the iron in the material. This is a sintered oil impregnated Powdered Metal.
