New Project

Post by johnnycyclone »

Thought I would share my newest project for the summer, and probably next winter. I sold two of my sleds, mainly because in the last 2 years, I was only able to ride them 2 days. Hopefully I will be able to ride this one a little more. I was able to pick it up for about half the normal selling price, which is a good deal, but it hasn't been cosmetically well taken care of. Which is perfect since I like to work on projects like this. I'm not crazy with the color, so that may change next winter, but for now we are just going to put the buffing wheel to it and bring back the shine. Right now it looks like a flat pearl white with no shine. I don't care for the color of the seat either, so I may change that out this summer, it will depend on the funds available. It will definitely be getting some chrome accessories, which I have already begun to order. I'm not going to go overboard on it, I would like to try to keep it as tasteful, as possible. Mechanically it's pretty solid, just a few minor issues, like the cruise control light that stays on all the time. Looking forward to bringing this one back to the way it should be, a beautiful Gold Wing. To get some perspective on the bike, my 15 year old son told me last night that it was an old mans bike, and that I should have bought a Harley. I guess I must be getting old then!

I agree Todd, I probably won't do anything with the seat this year, it's kinda growing on me. I hit the front fender with the buffing wheel and it gives it a totally different look, a lot whiter in color, so I may keep the color also. Right now it looks more like a dirty white, so hopefully once it's buffed out it will look much cleaner.

I have always loved the Gold Wing model, and the GL1500 is my favorite ones, so it's a great fit. I couldn't see myself riding a Harley, they shake to much for me, I like the smooth idle of the Honda.

I understand, I would have loved to stick with sleds, but I will get more use out of this than the sleds. I will keep some around to play with, just no more restorations.

I will post pics of my progress as we go.

Nice Goldwing :) When I retired last year we bought it's little brother a PC 800, first year build 1989.
It's a V Twin 800 5 speed. The tires that were on it were 14 years old and good tread but had cracks, replaced them.
Happy riding.
