Low Milage 81 Liquifire from Colorado...

Post by JoeRainville »

Hey Guys,

My friend Adam found me a JD in Colorado that was too nice to pass up. It's a bone stock 1981 model that has no race history, nor was it owned by anyone special and no drama. But it is the nicest stock 80's Liquifire I have seen:

She is only showing 758 miles, and is straight as new. I currently have several 80-84 Liquifires, and this one is by far this nicest one I have. Thanks to Adam for talking me into buying it :>)

Nice sled Joe, I like the 81's. I think I used to own the Dator in the background.

Thanks Mike. It was a good score and will eventually be gone through with replacing the crank seals, fuel system cleaning and new drive train bearings. Good eye on the Dator, you did in fact own it. I got it in trade from the guy you sold it to a few years back. Turns out its from the Minneapolis Branch Team of EDT, and looks to have been one of Roger Eberts sleds. It was then transfered to the factory team in 77, but I am not exactly sure what it was used for as it had lots of updates.

I also think I have another of of your old sleds, the Gordy Hamm I-500 Liquidator:>)

Joe, the Gordy Hamm Dator is the only one of the 7 I owned that I miss. It was my first one and in my opinion the coolest one I had. I am glad to hear you still have it. Have you gotten around to restoring it yet? Maybe some day I can get it back from you

Nice 81' LF Joe.. looks real nice. I found a real nice original 80' this past fall up near Binghamton NY. Too nice to part out, only show 309 miles. I would have to agree w/ it b/c the track looks brand new.. Not sure what i am gonna do w/ it, maybe sell it to help fund another 82' sprint project..
Congrats :usa:

Joe has quite a bit of interest in his ETD Liquidator, of this I am positive! That Liquidator has traveled from Minnesota to Wisconsin to New York to Colorado and now to Texas. Most of those miles under the ownership of Joe Rainville. Man, that sled has a lot of road miles!

That might be a record for a ETD Dator!

Hi Guys,

Sorry, but I do not have any Liquidators for sale at this time.

Mike,

I brought the Hamm Dator down to Texas over Christmas. It's in the same shape as when you last saw it. I plan to restore one of the basket case ones to "Up-Dator" specs before I touch one of the complete ones. If I do ever need to part with it, I will call you first.

Image

If I have the "verbal history" right on this one, I think it's one of 17 Liquidators that finished the I-500 in 1976, and ran the first leg in 77.

Image

Kenny,

You are probably right, that I have put more miles on any of Dators in the trailer vs. on the trail. I attempted the Challenge twice on the JRC Dator, and limped into fishtails at 6,000 rpm once, and then blew the track the following year after about 10 miles. So that is about 85 miles driven vs. 3,000 trailer miles

Later Liquidator!

Joe, that sounds about right. If memory serves me it has a little over 500 miles on the clock so it seems to check out. I really miss that thing, it came out of BFE Canada....I remember a couple of fellas brought it and a minty 76 Liquifire 340 to me for like $300. They were happy just to be in the states. What was that guys name?.......

This is the first time I've seen "Joe Rainville" and "restore(d)" in the same thread. Joe, have you "restored" any sled? :lol22:
