80's & newer are mounted to the skid the CC suspension is not. The ones used on the CC have a part number of M67868

Re: Swap meet suspension
Grumpy and Brian,
What Lindner is describing is a round tubing steel spacer that is over top of the center idler wheel mount on both skids. I was trying to explain to Brian that that mount on the 78 CC is a separate part, while its a weldment on the 80 and up LF's.
But, I do not recall ever seeing a tube slipped over any of those mounts before. It was loose and rolled around on both his 80 and his 78 CC skid. I found that odd, but then again you learn something new everyday.

Re: Swap meet suspension
I wonder if a 80s LF mount got bolted on to this rail, this is what it looks like after the side wheel and outer steel bushing has been removed. Looking at the parts book, this looks like a -190,000 LF part. Certainly not a CC part.

Re: Swap meet suspension
Here's a look at the biggest issue I have found. The left rail has been seriously worn into by the track clips.
What I thought was really surprising, is that it starts at the very front, and goes most of the way down the rail.
Any thoughts?

Re: Swap meet suspension
One more thing; while the hyfax retaining clips are bolted in place on the rear axle bracket, someone went to the trouble of drilling the rails and bolting the hyfax in at the front.

Re: Swap meet suspension
I've seen that caused by bent track clip tabs on the 80s. Not sure how the tab gets bent.400brian wrote:Here's a look at the biggest issue I have found. The left rail has been seriously worn into by the track clips.

Re: Swap meet suspension
Brian,
I am stripping down an 80 LF skid this weekend and I will post pic's when I get the center idlers off. You either have an 80's LF bracket bolted on, or someone welded the 78 CC idler wheel mount to the triangle bracket. The separate wheel mount on the 78 CC's was available in aluminum and steel, and looked to be billit. There would have been a flat machined on the side toward the rail, at the bottom.
Bummer about the damage to the side of the rail though.

Re: Swap meet suspension
Brian, the center towers were never bolted on either the 78 CC or the 80+ liquifires so that may be a + here as now you can replace the rail with maybe the 78 consumer rail??
Brian let me see the other side ( inside ) of the center tower & I'll tel you if it's a CC tower or an 80 + liquifire or a CC tower..
It looks to me like someone has put 80+ towers on a 78CC rail??
What hold the hyfax in the rail of a Dator lite? it doesn't show anything in my parts book?

Re: Swap meet suspension
Brian...... That's why I leave that stuff lay there. Its complicated and will drive you crazy. The only thing about that suspension that is CC is the back axel and spacers. Rest is 80 Liquifire.

Re: Swap meet suspension
The tail end of the 78 is a full I-beam, where on the CC, the top of the I has been cut flush with the web on the last few inches. I assume a production rail could be re-worked to CC specs. I'm going ask around to see if anyone could run a bead down the inside of this rail. As it is, it will probably hold the hyfax. I just pulled the old one out.
Here's a photo of the inside of the tower.

In this case, I was working on cloning a CC suspension out of an 80 anyway ( for a rider ), So this gave me a leg up on that, and the price was right.
The rails are the correct length for CC I believe, they match a production '78 rail, and are longer than the 80.

Brian That tower IS NOT a CC tower The CC tower has a oblong hole as the both the steel & aluminum spacers that the center wheel mount on are pushed into that oblong hole for stability. If I can find some I'll get some pics & send to you..

Yes, on the 190000 and below LFs, there is a steel spacer that fits over that mount.lwb140 wrote:wasn't there a bushing that went over the major diameter of that for the spring tail to ride on ,sorry guys my sled brain has been summerized maybe im nuts wade400brian wrote:I wonder if a 80s LF mount got bolted on to this rail, this is what it looks like after the side wheel and outer steel bushing has been removed. Brian That tower IS NOT a CC tower. Agreed, that is what I've been saying. I've never seen the CC spacer, but I have looked at the setup in the parts book. This won't be 100% correct obviously, but it'll be ok for my '78 rider.ICCSF 108 wrote: The CC tower has a oblong hole as the both the steel & aluminum spacers that the center wheel mount on are pushed into that oblong hole for stability.
