Horicon Show

Post by WinnipegStPaul9 »

We spent much of yesterday setting up our building. Apparently someone named "Tyvek" died and donated the building because his name is all over it. Strikes me funny though because once siding is put on it you won't see Mr. Tyvek's name at all. For this weekend we'll be easy to find if you just look for the Tyvek building.

Want to thank our board member Darren Redding for seeing that we were invited.

I think we have a nice display of John Deere sleds and of course we'll have the 2014 Hall of Fame Charity Sled on hand and should have tickets to sell. Brock (Skoalmint) did a fabulous job with it and it looks like it came straight from the assembly line ( actually better ).

Loren Anderson wanted me to let everyone know Jesse Babbler will have raffle ticket at the Horicon show. Thank you for supporting the Hall of Fame by purchasing tickets. The winner will be picked at next years 2014 Classic Sled Roundup in St. Germain, held Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks to everyone involved with the 78 Liquifire restoration, and of course especially Brock for all the time, money and NOS parts he donated. I am going to send a list of names of folks that donated toward the cause to the HOF as they want to make a sign for the sled. If you donated something to the sled, and your name was not on the "parts needed list", please feel free to drop me a line at: joerainville@hotmail.com so everyone gets recognized for their donations.

Wish all a good time at the Horicon show, and please post lots of pic's for those of us that can't be there.

Thought I would share some pics of the show. I didn't get to spend a lot of time there because we had to rush back to Illinois for a wedding, but I was excited about the factory tour and they aren't doing tours on Sunday. The tour was of the line that builds the X 300 and X 500 mowers, so we didn't actually get to see the part that they built the sleds. It was still cool though.

I believe this is the part of the building that the sleds were built. It is over 100 years old!!

Thought this was neat. This '63 was originally bought in my wife's home town and now lives in Iowa.

FastL82vette it was good to meet you. Thanks for taking pictures and sharing. Someone ( that would be me ) left the camera at home. Brock loaned me his so I have some pictures on a memory card and Joe Wanie (Horicon) took pictures so hopefully we'll be able to post some soon. As for now it's about time to get ready to head for the fairgrounds and I expect to be loading up and heading for home about noon. It's been a great time !!! Shaun Booth (78LF) from Saskatchewan showed up yesterday as did Maynard Peterson ( Gumbofarmer ) who lives in NW Minnesota so we've had some great surprises. Met and spoke with the gentleman that was in charge of the 340/S program. It's great to hear from the folks that designed, built, tested all these great sleds. Thanks to Darren Redding and the John Deere Horicon Plant for being such great hosts.
