On my introductory post, I mentioned that I was picking up A 73? John Deere 600 and a 74 John Deere 300. Well here they are and a little info about them.
Both sleds were purchased new from the person whom I obtained them from. They have been parked in their shed since 84. It was fun talking to them about how they used the sleds. The 300 was paid for by shooting fox! With the sleds I also received two original Deere covers, manuals, 2 new belts and some misc NOS parts.
Well here they are after a quick bath. The plastic, seats, chrome etc still need a good cleaning, but I think you will get the idea.
First I'll do the 300.
Unfortunately the 300 needs a seat. I am guessing something sharp was sitting on it at various times so it is pretty much toast. It also needs a kill switch. The rear bumper has a bit of rust on it, steel wool might clean it up, we will see.
Then the 600.
The 600 needs a leaf spring and battery. It looks like the shock was replaced?

Re: ddub goes green?
Nice pair of sleds.
The seat on the 300 is no problem. The cover is not attached to the foam, so you can just pull the staples out of the plywood, and it should come right off. John's Upholstery will make you a nice replacement, and you can probably install it yourself.
The seat on the 600 looks great. but in my experience, it will crack as soon as you start sitting on it. The best plan is to re-cover it before you split the foam. The vinyl on this seat is attached to the foam, and it is much more difficult.
I would just send it to John and have him do it.
Have fun!

Re: ddub goes green?
Very nice, especially for the fairly high mileage. The owner must have taken good care of them.

Re: ddub goes green?
I would say same as Matt. Someone took care of these gems.
Congrats.
And put in new crank seals before you do anything else.

Thanks for the compliments. Yes they are nice originals.
A bit more bathing and they will be even nicer.
JDT, yes I will be checking the engines over very thoroughly before putting them into service.
A few parts to find also. But that is half the fun!
