I have over 30 more receipts on parts that were repaired over the years, including the EGT paperwork which was installed in 1979 by Wag -Aero co. out of Lyons, Wisconsin.

If you would like to see all of this let me know. Needless to say, I have got some neat stuff, talked stories of this sled with the original owner, know its history, know why the road runner decal is on the hood.......

I wondered that too but I minimized Paul's picture and placed my CC right beside it and if they did indeed cut a hole in the hood it was in the exact place. Couldn't see a difference between the two.

there is no way a cyclone hood could have been used, this might have been an oversight. The hinge area on the original hood cracked out, like they all do and the dealer replaced it with this hood, the underlying paint under the black is green, just like what was on the darker green cyclones, why ?? Dont know. Came right from John Deere this way per prior owner.

Paul, I think the guys are right. All the Cyclone hoods from 76-78 came out of the two sided mold and where smooth on the inside. Plus they all had the "shark gill" vents. Your hood is rough on the inside, common to the 78 Liquifire single sided mold. I think the green color you see might be the gel coat.

At any rate, that sled is a nice find. I like the tag about it having too much power in stock form to meet the ICCSF 45 hp regulation.

I hope this helps,

The story behind the Road Runner.

Back in the day...1978 + to 1990's, in Paw Paw, Illinois. There was a sled club called the Paw Paw Penguins, basically a bunch of drunken farmers who ran around from bar to bar and sleds back in the day. Each one of them had a unique decal of some sort on the hood, well, this one got a road runner. Ken, the prior owner said it took him many hours to cut this decal out and mount it on the hood. At some point his name Ken was added during this clubs duration, Ken is hand painted on the hood.

Paw Paw and Earlville are a few miles apart, sled was located about 4 miles north of Earlville on Ken's homestead. Lots of open ditches and fields and many creeks just like most of central Illinois, I am sure there were some good drunken adventures, but Ken did not drink, so...maybe he infact saved this old gal from her destiny by not drinking.

Original dealer decals are cool and the tunnel paint is in really good shape. It'd think long and hard before restoring that machine.

Trans temp gauge work? Very handy on a snowmobile to keep a handle on the belt temperature.

Trans temp gauge ?

It has EGT and coolant temp.

It won't be painted, only original once, and so it will be, just some elbow grease

You mentioned the green under the black paint on the hood. I have 3 or 4 1978 liquifire hoods that are like that, I have wondered if they were perhaps replacement hoods?

Exactly, this guy works for Deere and got the replacement hood directly from them, this is whats on the sled now and the green is showing on lots of areas. The original hood does not show this.

Sure it has a trans temp gauge. It's in the picture right between the speedo and tach.

Honestly never thought about it. Wonder if trans temp gauges have a range better suited for the sleds.
