This summers project. Non sled related...

Post by eppjd »

Just got back from a week off of preparing the foundation, and felling trees/stripping bark/cutting and splitting and makin a nice stack of wood. Plan is to build a cordwood (stack wall) gazebo at my folks place late this summer.

Everything I have done so far/plan to do has been strictly what I have learnt in books and online, apparently there are some cordwood structures in and around my area, but I have yet to see one in person. This whole "alternative building methods" thing is just another one of my obsessions. Dave, are you familiar with this technique?

Adam, I'm not real familiar with it but have read about projects like yours! Always interested in things people do with wood!
I retired from the carpenters and auto tech fields 8 years ago and heat with wood. Good luck on your project and let us see more
pictures as you go!

Wow! Anyone can walk into a big box store and buy a kit to build a modern shelter, but very few have the guts & talent to take an idea and build with true craftsmanship. You should be very proud of your hard work.

I am glad that you posted an update from this Spring. I have gone the whole summer confused. I thought you were just stacking firewood in random shapes.

The end result is beautiful. The only problem I see is that the door is not big enough for sleds in the Winter.

That is a cool build! I have seen in books people using round cord wood for the walls but
have never seen anyone actually build one.

We actually had that discussion at Milbank. There were a few that wondered what Adam was doing.
