JDX-8 Lighting issue after E-Start install .... **Resolved**

Post by GreenGenes »

Hey Gang.... I hope someone can help me out.
I have a 73 JDX-8 that I just put an E-Start out of a JD-400 ( I think )
All lights work when bypass plug is installed ( No E-Start)
Once I plug in the e-start no more lights... I suspect that on the JDX-8 you need the Red jumper connected to the Orange wire that usually gets cut.
Does anyone have a photo of how there connector looks with the E-start connected.
Please send me a PM if you have some pics.

If you used the entire e-start kit form the donor sled everything should work correctly.

It sounds like the problem you are having is either you have a bad rectifier, the rectifer is wired wrong or it was not moved to your sled from the donor.

When the e-start package is hooked up through the connector the lighting system is now powered by DC rather than AC.

So it the rectifer is bad, missing or wired wrong you have no DC and hence no lights.

The rectifer has four terminals on it, ie.. two AC, one POS and one NEG.

If the wires are not on the correct terminals you will have no output.

Thanks Todd for the help... Been reading quite a few post and always see your name.... I have a rectifier coming in the mail but it hasn't arrived yet.

Is there a quick way to test the rectifier?

Well the rectifier was good. So that wasn't the problem.
Thought that I would try to connect the cut off jumper (orange) wire.... Success we have lights !!!!!
The starter kit came from a JD-300 or 400.
According to the install instructions for AM52472 Electric start kit for 300 and JDX4 snowmobiles they say " Do not install the single, orange wire connector into the wiring
harness. Cut connector off and discard.... Well that was the problem... The JDX-8 needs that jumper connected to the main wiring harness. :beers;
