First of all I am a newbie to sleds so excuse my ignorance. He is my problem with the 83 Liquifire. If I'm doing something wrong, please let me know.
I just finished pulling the engine, replaced all the gaskets and PTO seal. Got new Needles and seats and all gaskets for Mikuni Carbs. New spring in recoil starter. Put engine back in and started it up. Lots of pulling at first but then she fired!!!!
Now the sled will idle at about 3500rpm and seems to be missing. If I give the engine a little throttle the thing smoothes right out and winds up to 8000rpm+ with a quick squeeeze. After a few minutes of this, the thing then will begin to pop or backfire.
I pulled the plug wires one at a time while running and the clutch side cylinder seems to be problem. While its running I can put my hand on the clutch side carb and it feels like it vibrating while the flywheel side carb is smooth. Pulled problem side plug and its black. Flywheel side plug is brown. I did a compression test and both are at 105lbs.
Gonna try swapping the carbs and see if problem follows.
Any ideas?

105 is low. They should be like 120-125, and 115 is probably as low as you'd want to be. It's possible your gauge is off though. Do you have another gauge you can try?
Definitely try switching the carbs and see if it follows. It's always good to try to narrow it down.

I can try another gauge.
I read somewhere else on this site about Throttle Safety Switch. I think its on the Tech section linked to from the Home page.
It states - "Improperly adjusted cables will cause an ignition miss and hard starting, as the switch intermittently shorts the ignition".
This sounds like it could be a possible issue. This sled belonged to my father-in-law and he had it torn apart a lot of times. Would not surprise me if they were not setup correctly.
Where are these located?
Didn't try the carb swap yet. It was about 75deg and beautiful here today. Tough to work on a sled with weather like that in November!

You could try disconnecting the main wiring harness, which will allow the ignition system to still work, but take all switches and accessories out of the loop. Pull that big gray plug out that's down by the recoil and try starting it then. You'll have to plug it back in to kill the engine though.
