After much work and troubleshooting, I figured the the pto shaft seal is going out. Now I need to buy a clutch puller and try to change it with motor in place. I thought it was the left reed gasket and replaced all those. Nope. It just started running funny and I wanted to check it out. All I can say is a little starting fluid changes the rpm on pto side sprayed behind the clutch. I hope I can do this with motor in place.....

Cant find a tool on DK or amazon. How do I replace this seal?

pop the clutch and very carefully take a wood screw and screw it into the seal just enough you might have to use a small drill bit to make a pilot hole and then pull it out with a claw hammer and then tap the new one in dont forget to rub alittle grease on the ID of the seal no grease on the OD. Thats it

Matt even might have some Comet Clutch Pullers in the store here on the web-site?? Or There should be some on Ebay, I might also suggest spending a little more $$ than purchasing a cheap one as some of the cheapies don't last & can ruin the threads in the clutch & or the threads in the cranks if they bend inside the crank, especially if you have a stuck/stubborn clutch..
Make sure when installing a new seal this way that you keep the seal straight at all times when installing it, it also helps to install a little film of Crankcase Sealant around the OD of the seal " just in-case " it doesn't seat properly

All the clutches I have pulled off were 102-c comet so this may be different. A 3/8" drive 1/2 deep socket just perfectly fits into the clutch, So onn the lathe I made a piece the same exact diameter and maybe 4 or 5 inches long. I compaired thjat to the end of a crankshaft I had on the bench to see If it would harm the threads and it wasn't going to. So I slid it in and used a grade 8 bolt to press it in and with a few hammer taps it came right off

Yes, you will need a puller. You can either make one as Ryker suggested, or buy one as Matt suggested. A proper puller allows you to pop the clutch off w/o damaging either the clutch or the crankshaft.

I also like SnoProDeere's method of seal removal, I usually pound a large flat screwdrive into the seal, and pry it out that way. In either case, use caution to not damage the bearing behind the seal. The CCW/Kiortz motors do not have a raised seal lip like the Kawi's do, so pulling them out with the crank still in the cases is not too bad of a job.

I have a master bolt-grip puller from Matco tools and it just so happens that the long bolt for the puller was the right thread.
Came right off with it. Replaced seal and runs much better. I did have to cut a groove in the seal with a cut-off wheel and pry the seal out. No metal dust in motor. Now does wheelies! If anyone needs this tool, just pm me.
