help 80 sportfire

Post by bernie7434 »

So I was riding along yesterday at a full clip on a warmed up 80 sportfire when engine died. Thought the worse but engine still turns over haven't had a chance to borrow a compression tester but feels the same on the rope. Won't run on ether I do have spark. Could I have jumped time how do I check. Anyone with similar problems. Crank seals are old and I know I need to swap them out.

If you think the crank seals needed to be done, do it now. It's prolly already too late
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

I would check the compression before going any further. I had a Spitfire quit running after an overheating issue, it was my boys first time on a sled and he just putted around the field with it. Sounds about what you experienced, it was running just fine, then quit, couldn't get it to run again, checked compression, didn't have much on either cylinder. The engine was just rebuilt, with new seals, pistons and rings, before it melted down.

Before you get the compression tester, you can shine a flashlight in the plug hole and see if you can see a hole in a piston.
