Snowmobiling in Texas
Snowmobiling in Texas
Well we had our first winter storm last week and had enough sleet and ice to take the Liquifire out for a spin around the neighborhood. It ran great and traction with the track studs gripped the ice well. Had many people taking a second look and probably wondering what the hell is that and why it is in TX. I think I will sell it after this winter..........

We get "the look" in Kansas also. Until you get "the look" you don't know what we are talking about but once you get it - you'll know what we are talking about.

Raced ours in Southern Georgia, Virginia and Maryland. There is a group that runs sleds on NHRA tracks in Florida. They do get attention!

Cari and I had a great time riding last weekend. Sorry, no vintage pic's but three days riding the Cat was a hoot. And the sled used to be owned by Steve Tabor and Doug Oster, of ETD fame.

I imagine they can't even give you a ticket Joe. Since no one knows what a snowmobile is.

Re: Snowmobiling in Texas
Duane,
Most folks knew what a snowmobile was, but were surprised to see one running around Fort Worth. Only one older fella asked what it was, and I was pretty sure he wanted to take it for a spin. I gave about 8 different folks rides on her, and let a few guys take it for a spin solo. Needless to say, I really had a great time for a few days.
pwgsx,
Very cool that you got your Liquifire out for a spin! I assume we won't be able to ride down here very often, but it as fun, and gave me a great pic for our Christmas cards. Sorry to hear you want to part with your Liquifire, I really like riding my 80-84's.

Yea it was a blast for a CL find, I will hold on to her for a bit longer though, I just hate to see it sit and not be used. I was almost hoping a cop would have stopped me, I would have loved to see what he would say
Re: Snowmobiling in Texas
Almost forgot, where on the temp gauge does it usually read for normal riding after its warmed up? I know I didn't have cooling since it was ice and sleet vs snow and the front radiator can only do so much so I would let her cool when it got close to the white/red mark.

Re: Snowmobiling in Texas
Shutting her down before she gets into the red zone is always a good idea. I was surprised the Cat stayed cool, as it does not have a radiator at all, only tunnel heat exchangers. I guess the studs made enough ice dust to keep the slides and the motor cool. You might want to check your thermostat as the rad should have been able to keep it cool if you were moving the sled with any speed at all. I've never overheated an 80's LF on a lake or ice or such.pwgsx wrote:Almost forgot, where on the temp gauge does it usually read for normal riding after its warmed up? I will check that, it might be stuck. Where can I find a replacement?
I saw your videos on youtube, pretty sweet.

South Georgia Motorsports Park, Valdosta Georgia. March 2013. Tiina is trying to explain to a local exactly how a snowmobile works with no snow.
