340 Trailfire air box restrictor

Has anybody else ever seen a restrictor in the intake tube of a 340 Trailfire? This year was the first time I ever even noticed it in the tube. Was there a bulletin for this or was it there at the factory assembly?

yes that goes into the tube and is stock

What is the difference between the 1981 Trailfire 340 and 440 air box restrictors? What is the ID measurement on each?
Part number are M68186 for the 340 and M68187 for the 440.
