I cannot get my intake off my carb jdx6

Post by silverlakez400 »

I managed to get my 74 jdx6 running last year after I pulled it out of a barn that it sat in sense 1982. I ripped the track off it though last February. Thanks to a member on here, I have two new tracks for it. But my new job has not allowed me to work on it much.

I went out to start it this year, and it fired up and ran for a while but then died after 3 mins of run time. I want to mess with the carb some, but I cannot get the screws out that hold the intake onto the carb. I have sprayed it with pb blaster a few times and let it set for a week spraying it on and off. I've tried it cold and warm. I can't get it to budge.

any tips I'm missing?

and if you feel up to critiquing my carb plans here is what I've done and what I plan on doing. it will sputter a bit, might even give me a teasing surge. Plugs have been cleaned and gapped to .020. I've adjusted the high flow needle so that it is only backed out one turn. It seems like it is flooding out. I have spark at both cylinders. I plan on taking the intake off and seeing if the carb looks really bad in there and cleaning it if necessary. but then playing with the needles to make sure i'm not flooding it out.

Did you replace the crank seals?

I think you mean you can't get the air box screws out?

After 40 years, the engine needs some service. Crank seals are a good idea, and the carb needs to be removed, cleaned, and rebuilt.

I got this sled in late 2012. I tore it apart last winter and got it running. But after busting the track, I parked it. Sitting all summer has the screws siezed in there and I don't want to apply heat so close to lots of gas. I am very intimate with the carb/fuel pump.
