1983 liquifire 440 troubles

I have been working on my 1983 liquifire 440, it wont rev up, to much fuel it seems, i cleaned the carbs, (they are power jet carbs ) i just dont like them things to fussy, the copmression is good, i installed a differant fuel pump the original double decker had a bad pump, i installed a newer style pump, maybe that is a problem, its smokes terrible , and sound like a old two cylinder tractor(putt putt putt) at idle runs a bit better off idle it sucks!! this sled is really nice shape, just aggrivating , so if you can help thanks, if you think you want it i might sell it like it is , my loss your gain!!, track is good as well, if you can help or want it email me at busyboys@srt.com or leave help here im done with it!!

Any chance the choke cabels are adjusted to much or maybe the choke seats are leaking gas by. Maybe the inlet needles are sticking open or not seating float levels maybe. Is it soaking both plugs or just 1? If your thinking about the pump try disconnecting it and just running the sled off whats in the bowls and see what happens this could also help determine a carb prob or not as the gas starts to get low it should lean out and run better. Just tossing out a few ideas here good luck.

Sounds like the same kinda thing I just experianced with my 1979 invader. Starts and idles fine, get on the gas and put-put-put. Mine was the CDI box. I just happened to have one laying around and decided to try it and ZOOM ran like a top.

If your thinking the cdi more than likely you can swap on the trailfire unit before spending the bucks on a new one.
