Well after going to Waconia this year... I got the itch to try a Polaris project. Next year Polaris and Arctic Cat are the featured sleds...so why not??
Well here is what I found on CL near me. So I decided to pick it up. I really like the looks of it. Dual carbs, hydraulic brakes, 1700 mi, and overall good shape. It actually runs! Track drive bearing went out and wore out the track drive shaft. So Ill have to get that welded up and turned down. One spindle needs to be replaced and ski straightened.
So now the part hunt begins. If anyone has parts for these or anything to look out for...let me know.

I always liked those Cobras Eric. I'm kind of up in the arms now. I've got my 340/s tore apart and now Polaris is the featured sled for next year. I've got a 78 TXL beater and a basket case 78 TXL. I just bought a reproduction heat formed seat cover for it at Waconia. I also have a pretty nice 82 Indy 500 triple. I moth balled it like four years ago. That thing was crazy fast. Anyway I'll probably have enough problems just getting the 340/s restored.

Duane,
What do those preformed covers run? This sled needs the seat recovered along with the storage compartment door and frame.

Re: Waconia 2015 Ride... 440 Cobra!!
I got mine from Don Sockup from Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. He had a swap spot on top by the ball room. He had a special running for the weekend. $225 for one. Buy one get 50% off the second, or buy two and the third one was free. I had two friends at home that wanted one each so mine cost me $150 for the 78 TXL. I have no idea if the Cobra interchanges with anything he sells but I'm sure I never saw Cobra as a sled his covers fit. He had Starfires, TXLs, and TXs listed only. There is another guy named Conrad who makes these too and Don's may have came from him. I know he has more of a selection. I can probably get Conrad's phone number from Chris Dotzler. If Conrad has them I'm pretty sure they'd be at least $150 for a cover. Now if someone would just do these for our JD sleds. I don't know what became of it but Horicon Joe looked into this from the original manufacturer of JD seats for Deeres. They are still in business. By the way I found a hell of a deal I'm picking up tomorrow. A complete 90 or 91 Indy 500 Special for $150 a little over a hour from home. Last week I picked up a pretty nice 96 XCR 440 Special a hour and a half from home for $650. A couple weeks ago I picked up a 91 XC 400 up and Jesse sold me a 91 XC 400 chassis with a skid in it that the other one was missing. I drove three and a half hours to find the 91 XC 400 had a replacement tunnel with no serial numbers and I was going to pass until Jesse said he'd sell me the chassis with the correct tags and suspension. I sold that nice 76 440 Liquifire I had at Waconia for $800 in a half an hour. After 10 years it was kind of sad to see her go but I'm heading in a different direction. Kind of picking up the rarer Indy's from the 90s before they are worth a ton of money. I'm for sure keeping my 84s, 340/s, 78 Liquifires, and my custom 77 Liquifire. I might let my 72 500, 76 340 Liquifire, 82, and 83 Liquifres go.

NIce finds! Sounds like you are keeping busy.
I started taking it apart last night. Not much to this old sled. Found a .17HMR casing between the tank and seat. Im guessing this sled was used for chasing coyotes...haha
I may just send the seat to John. Not going for a complete restoration on this. Just a solid sled to bring to Waconia next year that will fit in with all the other vintage Polaris sleds! Im hoping to have my 81'LF CC sled built too!
Got some fresh snow in IL last night but not as much as forecasted. Heading to Rice Lake, WI tomorrow to hit the trails on thew newer sleds.

Re: Waconia 2015 Ride... 440 Cobra!!
I thought the 2015 featured sleds were "Sleds built in Minnesota", not just Cat or Polaris. Which is it?
