Picked up a 2004 Edge XC 700

Post by 69camaro »

XC 700 has only 2900 miles on it. I needed to upgrade to get electronic reverse. Basically the newest sled I would buy anyway. Funny story. A friend of mine has a 2004 Pro-X 600. He was riding with some guys with brand new Polaris sleds. They asked him why he was driving that old junk. Well it got a little heated and my friend asked them if they wanted to race across the lake. First guy had a Polaris Rush Pro RR 600. Pro-x won by around 10 sled lengths. Next challenger had a Polaris Rush 800. Again the "old junk Pro-X prevailed by a couple of feet. It's nice to know I just bought a sled that's faster than any 2014 Polaris.

You got a bulletproof motor. I had an 02 rmk 700 that thing was a rocket on a straight away. I'd beat alot of new sleds on the flats. But they beat me every time up the mountain and would out climb me. The New ones are just set up different. Change the gears and you'd have a rocket again. I have since upgraded to a Polaris dragon 700 with electric start reverse and fuel injection. Truly a turn key sled.
Many new and used parts available, I ship anywhere. Thanks everyone.

I remember the old neighbor buying a Edge 800 blue/yellow brand new. Man was it sharp. But ya needed a team of Clydesdales to pull it over....

My 04 XC 700 is the blue and white one with a little bit of red. It's a bonus that the Polaris retro jacket I bought at Waconia matches the sled perfectly. I guess I'll know a lot more about the plus's and minus's after this weekend. I really love the electronic reverse. I brought it home, backed the truck up to the ramp, and backed the sled off. No more muscling a sled with a bad back. It's probably going to take a bit to get used to and maybe it's got bad or short carbides but it didn't turn near as good as my 99 XC 600 with 8" carbides. The exhaust doesn't sound near as nasty as my 99 XC. It rode better but not considerably since my 99 XC has been retro fitted with a Edge rear skid but would have been a lot better than the 99 XC had it had the stock extra 10. I wanted a 04 because I knew the 04's had electronic reverse and I didn't like the seat on the 05's. I'm not sure what my next newer sled would ever be. I'm old school and I can't stand the way any Polaris looks after 05. Maybe a 13 or 14 Indy 600 and have a custom seat made so it actually had a seat to speak of. I'll write back when I know more about the XC 700. Even though we have tons of snow here we're heading up to Bayfield County Wisconsin this weekend for riding and taking a look at the ice caves. Can't wait.

After putting on 450 miles in 2 days of riding I'm getting pretty used to the XC 700. The more I ride it the better I like it. Some good carbides fixed the non turning issue. Takes a few more pulls to start than the 99 XC 600. The 600 usually starts on the first pull no matter what so I was a little spoiled. The 700 actually gets .5 to 1 mpg better than the 600 and can pretty much spank the 600 in a drag race. About the only thing the 99 600 has over the 04 700 is that it has a better sounding exhaust. I had the 700 up to 108 on the speedo today but it was not perfect conditions to see what the top end really is. Kyle and me were riding on the famous Tuscobia trail today which is a 78 mile long ex railroad bed. We only rode about 40 miles of it but it was very smooth and it was easy to just cruise at 70 mph. We quickly caught up to two new Arctic Cats that were doing only 45 mph. We followed them for about 3 miles and came to a stop sign. They saw us following close behind which means you let the faster sleds pass at the stop sign. I don't like passing much unless it's at a stop sign. Low and behold they take off. I waived Kyle to pass too. I hate doing this but Kyle says I blasted them with snow and he was sure he did the same. I bet the next time someone caught up they let them pass. LOL

We have always been XC riders, and have had great luck with them, except the 800. The 600 is an 02 and my ride, the 02 800 is my son's (this may be why it gives me trouble he's 16 :bonk: ) and the 03 700 is my girlfriends ,that's hands down the fastest of the bunch and she likes to prove that :lol22: , she also bought the Liquifire for me, so I guess she has to stay!!! :sled:

Glad you like your Edge Duane! The Perc reverse is awesome. I wouldnt buy a sled w/o reverse now.

I sold the wife's sled and gave her my 05' Edge with Perc and Electric Start. I picked up a 06' Switchback for this year. It took a little getting used to the rider forward position. But I really like it now. 144" track, Perc Reverse, Fuel Injection.. I put 1000mi on this winter and wish I could have gotten more.

I like to run 6" Doolys on my sleds. I recommend them. It will make your Edge feel like its on rails and eliminate darting.

Nice Edge! The Edge chassis was the last really good looking Polaris in my opinion.

Had a lot of fun on the Edges that I owned. Had a 600,700, and 800. Enjoyed the 600 the most. Love those sleds. Have had a IQ chassis and a Rush since then. One thing I will give the Rush is that it may not be as fast as the older ones, but after riding one for awhile, I will gladly give up the speed, for the comfort and ride of the Rush chassis.
