Woodruff key size

Post by kevcboy »

I am rebuilding the motor in a 1973 400 with the KEC-340 engine and i cannot find a flywheel woodruff key that works, does anyone know the actual dimensions of it or does someone have an extra?

I wasnt able to match it up either so I bought an oversized one and ground it down on the bench grinder till it fit perfectly. took about an hour. you gotta keep taking a hair at a time off and then going to see the fit. then back to the bench grinder and so on. worked fine though.

you know I just remembered. before I installed it in the sled I remember thinking I should trace the key out on a piece of paper and keep it in my manual. I am sure I still have it. If you think it will help I will dig out the paper and measure it up with my digital micrometer and send you the dimensions. The reason I traced it was so I could have the outline right there on the workbench and not have to keep running outside to the sled as I was grinding the next key out.

Rememeber that the engine is metric. You should be able to find metric keys . If you have a slide caliper, measure the width and depth and you should be able to find one.
