Not many hits on the brake band thread...what about disks?

Post by kentuckydiesel »

Disk brake conversion for JDX8 or similar? I haven't seen anything about anyone doing this yet. Have they?

Thanks,
Phillip

Your original issue with the Deere band was price - there is no way a disc conversion would be cheaper. That said I'm sure a disc system could be rigged up. A longer driveshaft with the disc in the pan right on the shaft would be nice like the DD sleds.

Well, my issue isn't so much price as it is value. A brake band just isn't worth $70.

It would seem it is when you have to have it compared to the alternatives. Parts for sleds that are 30+ years are not always going to be cheap but that's part are what's cool about riding them is keeping them working and not hacking them up. Just my $.02

I hear what you are saying, but if it's the only source for the part, there is value in that. If we had to reproduce them in small runs, they would probably cost more. BTW, the last time I bought a new band they were only $55 at the dealer, so I guess there was a significant jump in the past couple years.

I'm in the manufacturing business, and have the equipment to make a new brake band...heck, I could start reproducing the entire line of sleds if need be. I could make that brake band very inexpensively.

I have used and owned John Deere tractors since I was a kid, and while I wouldn't buy anything else, I have always disagreed with their parts pricing.
