Suggestions for inductive tachometer

Post by nick80lf »

For some time I have been considering purchasing an inductive tachometer. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I'm looking for something that would be really versatile and can be used on 2 cycle, 4 cycle, single to multiple cylinder engines.

So far I have been bumming a "tiny tach" / hour meter from my brother when I need a tach. This is the older model that you can't select the number of sparks per revolution, so there's always some easy math involved with it's use.

I have two from tachs from Electronic Specialties, the EZ Tach+ (inductive) and the Pro Laser contact tach. I am happy with both but the response time of the inductive tach is a little slow. The laser/contact tach is nice since it's a little more multi-functional as you can read any shaft speed by putting on a reflective strip or by using the included rubber tips.

Are there any hand held Digital Tachs out there that can be used on 1-2-3-4 Cly. 2-stroke engines? I'd like one to be nuts on accurate just to test verify how far off the OEM or aftermarket tachs are off.... Must be able to work on the early Deeres CDI to the Newer later sleds.. I suspect this laser one ( Pro Laser contact Tach ) like tieszo6 is talking about would work the best as it's taking shaft speeds? Are there others out there?

This probably should be moved to the General Talk Section as I'm sure it's going to get very interesting!!!!!
