2014 I-500 youtube ft. 621 and 440L/F

Post by SnowCrossMark »

Hi everybody,
Since there is no race this year, I came across this race video from last year.
I could not imagine how difficult it is to ride for 4 hours, at full race.

I seemed to have been a much better driver when my sled was slower.

The river run looked rougher than I thought it would be.

What was JDJR doing when you blew by him?

Watching the video, it appears to me that both Rainville and Wade were pacing themselves.

In this case that wasn't a bad strategy, as I don't think the guy was stopping there at the end to take a whizz. :bonk:

Thats fun.

He had one hell of a sled, he was riding it like he stole it forsure. He was also the second person to be out of the race.

Brian, I appreciate your optimism. While running a pace you can keep for 5 hrs in important, what really happened was that my goggles were freezing up, and I could not see much at all by the time Mattison passed me around the 7:20 timestap. I wasted a lot of time stopping to clear them until I finally tore holes in the side foam. He caught Wade around 15:15, but then Wade re-passed after his sled quit.

I did run a deliberate pace on the river, as it was below zero and my jetting was set for 0 to 40 deg. I ran 3/4 throttle with lots of WOT burst. Every time I passed a burned down sled I would back off. There were a total of 5 sleds on the river, and I was determined not to be the 6th.

SCM, thanks for posting the link! I have seen some of the Team Mattison videos, but not that one.

Even with a lame 15th place finish, crossing the line felt like a huge accomplishment after a 5 1/2 beating.

we rode about another 10 miles or so on thief river , through town passing by fish houses, riding behind the cat factory etc , there were several dead sleds on the river, it was rough and crazy cold , I really didn't want to burn down on the river

Is that what happened to the Cat in the Video? Burned down?
Kind of sounded like his engine went south.
