Re: 1982 Sportfire snuck onto the Trailer
Do the skid wheels touch the track when the sled is sitting on the ground? They typically will not if the sled is propped up in the air so the track clears and can flex away from the rails. Track tension has always been a bit of a crapshoot because the book indicates a tension spec that is really tighter than necessary but then informs the reader that it only needs to be tight enough to avoid slapping the tunnel at speed or when encountering the average bump in the trail. Excessive tension causes premature wear, takes more hp and a higher engagement rpm to operate. The skid frame wheels are supposed to be the same as the rear idlers, p/n AM54748.
I have never seen grab handles on any 80 - 84 sled. The sport seat was standard on the Sportfire, but any seat could be had. The Trailfire was available with a passenger seat strap for two up riding starting in 1980, so I would presume any Sportfire could accommodate the strap along with a bench seat. Grab handles are not in the parts book I have for the Trailfire. The only thing resembling a passenger seat handle came with the backrest kit.

You can see the hole that the seat strap was mounted to on the stripe decal.
In the photo of the skid it is sitting on the trailer and the track is flat on the slide rails and the skid wheels are not close to the track.
May want to check the wheel diameter as you suggested.
The metal bracket with three holes and teh broken grab handles under it may be from a Cat.

Re: 1982 Sportfire snuck onto the Trailer
I thought the handle brackets were very interesting as well, So these grab handle brackets must of been a custom add on and they drilled into the tunnel...When the sled is on the ground the skid wheels do not touch the track, I will measure them, I really am guessing smaller diameter wheels were used. Also in the pic if you can see it, where the front torsion spring rests (PTO Side) there is a white plastic bushing used instead of the round black guide for the spring in to rest on....So Someone in her past life has tinkered on this old girl.

The triangle plates mounted to the rear of the tunnel are from a 76 thru 78 cyclone, 76 / 77 Liquifire. They were used to reinforce the grab handles.

It looked smaller in the picture but sometimes pictures can be deceiving depending on the angle of the dangle.

Those are the wrong wheels installed. A lot of Polaris Indys, and Kawasaki,s used the same wheels, some one just screwed up and installed the wrong size. Hope this helps...Rob.

Heart transplant begins, this was in barn find/ someone tried to keep it running by cutting corners condition. Just goes to show that pulling it out of a barn and running it is not recommended!

Re: 1982 Sportfire snuck onto the Trailer
Inside of carb appears relatively clean considering the circumstances. Beats mouse pee.......
Re: 1982 Sportfire snuck onto the Trailer
I see the mice moved in the fan shroud.
And yellow adhesive on the trottle cable?
What is in that inside the carb throat?
