Speedo Kits
I just got an 82 Spitfire with no speedo and was looking on eBay for one. I have seen several from DK for Spits but there are also several that say they are for Sprintfires and Snowfires. They both seem to have the same pieces included and I was wondering if there was a difference. I've never seen a Sprintfire or Snowfire ibn person so I don't know the setup. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Check out the online JD parts catalogue before you buy. The kits do not include one
piece you will need, wich I think is the drive gear for the cable? I think this has to do with one kit fitting different machines with different track drive sprockets. Which brings up a question of my own. Does anyone know what the optional drive sprokets were for the spitfire? I'm thinking it might have one extra tooth, higher ratio? Ron.

As far as I know ( someone correct me if I am wrong ) There are maybe three or four different speedos. The '72 with the chrome trim ring. All the rest have a raised black ring ( maybe some are gray? ) most are 0-80 mph. The racing sleds got a 0-100 mph
and there were also some with a kph scale as well.
It would make sense that the direct drive sleds should have a differnt drive.
A quick check at JDPARTS indicates that the Spits, Sprints, and Snowfires use a drive different than all the rest.
Last summer Mike Hudziak mentioned having a boat load of complete Spitfire speedo kits ( that is all the goodies ) . Contact Mike and see if he is willing to part with one.

Hey Guys,
As far as I know, the only difference in the Spitfire to Sprint/Snowfire speedo kit is the speedometer it self. The Spit unit is an 0-80 mph english unit, while the Sprint/Snow is a metric kph unit. I don't think there are any other differences.
Hey Husziak, can I get a few of those kits?! (inside joke guys!)
Talk to you later, Liquidator!

I checked out again, and the speedo kit for spitfire in the JD onlline parts catalogue
pt# AM54656 has a foot note "does not include AM54654". If you scroll back up the
parts list you find that AM54654 is the drive. If the speedo kit offered further up in this post include everything I need to get a working speedo on my spitfire, I would like to purchase one or more as well. Happy sledding. Ron.

Just bought one, it will be nice to see how the little Spitfire performs. You don't have any tachs to go with it do you?
Speedo Kits
the drive theyre talking about is a small pressed in piece (pressed into the drive shaft) with a square hole in it for the little cable
Thanks,
Ted

AHH, the drive BUSHING! LOL gotta have one of those too it there isn't one in the driveshaft. I know the drive keys are available through Central.
But I have never seen the driveshaft bushing anywhere. I could use one for a 300 shaft, anyone have any?
