Found an 84 Sprintfire

Post by sledhead16 »

The seller advertised it as an 83, but looking at the pictures I was certain it was an 84. I waited and waited for the seller to contact me back, finally he did. He informed me that he has been the only owner. He said it hasn't been run for 5 years. It was a 5hr round trip drive so I told him we'd take it and off we went. After seeing it in person I confirmed it was an 84. It was all complete and even had the track replaced with an all rubber track that still had the nubs on it. The seat is original and has one small half inch tear in the corner. The windshield is cracked and the hood has some cracks and repair work. The decals are starting to peel. Bumper has some small dings in it. The belly pan is nice, the skis are nice. The suspension looks decent, the track is nice other than one edge side being tore up a little bit from someone installing rear bumper bolts facing inwards. The tank is nice but dirty. The motor and engine bay are pretty clean. Motor has 115/125 psi. Exhaust looks good, clutching looks good but needs cleaning and new belt. Airbox tube was packed with sunflower seeds and mouse debris which alarmed me but they didn't make it any further. Carb looks very clean but was assembled incorrectly inside for whatever reason. The oil injection line was brittle and busted up. Recoil handle was broke. She has good spark. So after looking her all over it was time to see if she's alive. A couple hours of messing around and a 100 pulls she fires up and runs and sounds really good! The goal for this year because I already have to many projects is to just get her rideable for maybe a couple events.

That all rubber track is intriguing. What brand is it? Does it have the original drive spockets on the sled?

Don and Matt, Yes it is incredibly interesting but looks like it fits great. The drivers are original and are mounted in the middle, I'll take some more track pics and get some numbers.
