CDI Conversions

Post by guitardude081 »

I'm sure this has been discussed to death. I have a '73 X8 and will be making a JDX-4 Special clone using a KEC 340/22A from a '75 X4. Both sleds will be converted to slide valve Mikunis since I was the Jack-butt to buy Walbro out of their last remaining OEM carb rebuild kits for the WRA/WDA carbs and will not use a Winderosa kit under any circumstances as they rot within 15 minutes of their first contact with gasoline. Since I will be using reliable carbs, I may as well convert to CDI as these will be my VC sleds as well as "Sunday-ride to the bar to watch the Vikings and grab a burger" sleds. I now have 6 X's/00s to make 2 riders and one bar ornament. I however do not have a single solid state ignition in the bunch. Question is with the 440/21 and 340/22, what will work. The 340 could presumably use a cyclone ignition being it is the same motor. How about the older generation KEC 440?

That was my other thought. I have plenty of tachs. I just don't want to end up with a whole sled. I'll keep on the lookout once I start ripping and tearing.
