Yellow 1983 Sportfire Custom
I took a beat up Sportfire that had a cracked up hood, broken headlight bezel, rough running engine, and tore up seat and went to work. I started by rebuilding the fuel delivery system - cleaning the tank, rebuilt the fuel pump and carb, and lines. Then pulled the engine and put in new pistons, rings, fan belt, and crank seals. New seed cover was next. I still need to install new ski shocks, find some ski insulators and figure out how to seal the manifold to muffler because it leaks exhaust and spits oil back on the crankcase until warmed up. I wanted to have some fun with the color and decals. The added decals match what is under the hood - NGK plugs, wiseco pistons, Winderosa seals, and Kawasaki engine. This sled will be rode, as intended by John Deere in 1983.

That looks very nice.
Love to see custom sleds that express the owner's vision of coolness.

Re: Yellow 1983 Sportfire Custom
Thanks. I made the decision to do a custom build last year at the Frontenac Vintage show in February - The pictures show a 1983 Trailfire on the side, which is all original including the decals, windshield, seat cover, etc. The sled looks brand new, all I did was rebuild the entire fuel delivery, pull the engine and replace seals, rings, clutch, and polish the hood and tunnel after it had sat in a garage for 16 years. Well, I placed the Trailfire on the "line" in Frontenac and did not hear a single comment or compliment, so I decided to build a sled that at least gets a second look!
